The Wall Behind Home Plate
Mason joined Bases Loaded at nine, borrowed a mitt two sizes too big, and never gave catching up. Seven seasons later he calls every pitch for the first team, blocks more balls in the dirt than anyone in the City League, and threw out eleven would-be base stealers last season.
Off the field he mentors the under-11 catchers every Wednesday and is working towards his level-one coaching badge — the youngest volunteer in club history to do so.

What His Coaches Say
“Mason runs our pitching staff like a twenty-five-year-old. He studies every batter, he frames the close ones, and when a young pitcher is rattled he is out there first. Captains are lucky to have a catcher like him.” — Coach Daniel Reyes
Mason is targeting a place in the regional development squad this winter and plans to trial for the national under-18 programme in the spring.
